Project Description

Dark Chocolate Trail Mix Bites

We all get those mid-afternoon or night-time sweet cravings, and as a dietitian, I say that we must satisfy those cravings to avoid bingeing on sugary foods. These Dark Chocolate Trail Mix bites are the perfect way to get your sweet fix without the guilt. Plus, dark chocolate is a source of antioxidants, which help protect our cells from damage, lowering the risk of chronic disease! The darker the chocolate, the less added sugar.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups dark chocolate (would recommend 70% or higher) chips
  • 1 tsp Coconut oil
  • Toppings included in this recipe: nuts, dried fruit, coconut, chia and hemp seeds
  • Other topping suggestions: pretzels, cacao nibs, sunflower seeds, peanut butter drizzle, granola

Directions

  1. Line a tray with parchment paper
  2. Melt chocolate chips and coconut oil in the microwave, in 30-second intervals, stirring each time, until melted
  3. Fill a piping bag (can use a Ziploc and poke a small hole) with chocolate and pipe into circles on the parchment paper
  4. While chocolate it hot, place whatever topping you like onto the chocolate
  5. Cool in the fridge until hard

Enjoy!
